Gateway Rehab Recognizes Volunteers for Service

Pittsburgh - Gateway Rehab Center held its annual volunteer recognition banquet on Thursday, April 20 at the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott, honoring volunteers for nearly 6,200 hours of service during 2005.  Reverend Joseph J. Kleppner, S.T.L., Ph.D., pastor, St. Frances Cabrini Parish, Center Twp., PA, spoke on the topic, Volunteers:  Inspire By Example.

The 2005 volunteer award for exemplary service was presented to James R. Ziglear of Carnegie, PA.

Ziglear has been an orientation and discussion group volunteer at Gateway’s outpatient center in Greentree, and has served on the Gateway Friends Association Board since 1991.  He developed and conducted an orientation curriculum for new patients at Gateway Greentree to help ease their transition into treatment, and he has recruited several volunteers to assist with the orientation project.  He has provided nearly 550 recorded hours of volunteer service throughout his tenure.

A veteran of the Korean War, Ziglear retired from the Bell Telephone Company in 1984 after 36 years of employment.  He and his wife of 51 years, Gaye, are the parents of one daughter, Louri, and her husband Dan Henry, and have four grandchildren.  In his spare time, Ziglear enjoys fishing, hunting, and golfing.

In presenting the award for outstanding service to Ziglear, Ellen Corona, clinical manager, Gateway Greentree, described him as “caring and always willing to give of himself to help Gateway staff and patients.”  Ziglear said he volunteers because he respects the work of Gateway Rehab and is proud to be involved with an organization that has benefited so many individuals and families throughout the years.

Volunteer opportunities are available at all Gateway locations throughout Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington, and Westmoreland counties.
