Gateway's Fourth Annual
"Breakfast with Legislators" Boasts Record-Breaking Attendance
More than 150 legislators and community members turned out to Gateway
Rehab's fourth annual "Breakfast with Legislators." Pennsylvania Attorney
General Tom Corbett served as keynote speaker while Michael Bartley, host
and reporter of "On Q Magazine" moderated the program. Other speakers
included Allen G. Kukovich, former state senator and director of the
Governor's Southwest Regional Office; James L. Aiello, Gateway Rehab
executive vice president of Treatment Programs; and Dr. Kenneth Ramsey,
Gateway Rehab president and CEO. The breakfast provided the opportunity for
local citizens, treatment providers, and elected officials to discuss one of
the nation's largest public health problems -- alcohol and other drug
dependency.
One of the main topics discussed at the breakfast was the high percentage
(80%-90%) of crime in America that is related to drug or alcohol addiction.
"Treatment can make a difference," said Dr. Ramsey. "For every dollar
invested in drug and alcohol treatment, society saves $7 to $10 in other
costs such as crime, imprisonment, health care, and other services."
