Gateway Rehab Center's mission is to enable people affected by or at risk of addictive diseases and other mental and emotional disorders to lead healthy and productive lives through prevention, education, treatment, and research.

Gateway Rehab Center, a not for profit organization, was founded in 1972 by Abraham J. Twerski, MD, an internationally known author, lecturer, teacher and physician.  It was opened as a 28 day abstinence based alcohol and drug dependence treatment center.  Now Gateway Rehab Center offers a variety of services in multiple locations but with the same compassionate and individualized approach as in our early years.

We view alcoholism and drug addiction as primary treatable illnesses.  Gateway Rehab Center gives special recognition to the role of 12 step programs in fostering recovery.  We put emphasis in our treatment programs on introducing patients to this time tested pathway to sober, healthy living.  12 step principles and values, such as honesty, appropriate self disclosure, the need for outside help and a support system, gratitude, and service to others form the basic foundation of the rehabilitative process at Gateway Rehab Center.  The role of the staff is to provide an atmosphere that facilitates this process.

For 35 years, Gateway Rehab Center has been responding to the needs of chemically dependent people and their families by offering flexible, comprehensive care. Gateway Rehab Center has earned a national reputation as a pioneer and leader in the field. Cited as one of the top 12 rehabilitation programs in the country in a survey conducted by Forbes magazine, and named one of the best treatment centers in Rehab and The 100 Best Treatment Centers, guides to addiction care, Gateway Rehab Center's commitment to quality care and excellence in treatment is widely acclaimed.
