Mid-Atlantic Addiction Training Institute (MAATI)
– Spring Conference Pittsburgh, PA – The Mid-Atlantic Addiction Training Institute (MAATI) will present its spring conference on Thursday, April 13th from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Pittsburgh International Airport, 8256 University Blvd., Moon Twp., PA, at a cost of $79 per person. The conference is geared toward professionals that want to apply a wide range of strategies and techniques aimed at reducing alcohol and drug abuse in the chances of relapse in their patients who exhibit substance use and/or mental health disorders. The conference topic is Substance Abuse Counseling with Difficult, Defiant Clients: What They Don’t Teach in Graduate School, with Fred J. Hanna, Ph.D. as presenter. Hanna is a professor in the Department of Counseling and Human Services at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. In addition to years of therapy practice, he has been a trainer to community agencies and school systems across the country. He has developed many innovative clinical techniques aimed at positive change for victims of oppression, criminal personalities, persons with addictive behaviors, and especially defiant, aggressive adolescents. Author of Therapy with Difficult Clients: Using the Precursors Model to Awaken Change, recently published by the American Psychological Association, Hanna is currently writing a book on the subject of therapy with difficult adolescents.
