Dr. Abraham Twerski Offers Remedies to Reach True Happiness at Gateway Rehab Book Celebration

At Gateway Rehab’s recent book celebration for “Happiness and the Human Spirit: The Spirituality of Becoming the Best You Can Be,” founder and medical director emeritus, Dr. Abraham Twerski, captured the crowd’s attention with his remedies for reaching true happiness in life and steps to correct what he calls, “Spiritual Deficiency Syndrome” (SDS).

An overflow crowd of more than 250 guests attended the book celebration held at the Sheraton Station Square Hotel in Pittsburgh, including WTAE-TV news anchor Sally Wiggin, who served as the evening’s emcee. While introducing Dr. Twerski, Wiggin marveled at the impressive list of 55 books Gateway’s founder has written over the years – with more to come. Other event participants included Gateway board member Jean Haller, owner of Journeys of Life book store and local jewelry designer Cynthia Grant, who partnered with Gateway to donate half of her jewelry sales to the organization.

Using simple, accessible language and clear examples, Dr. Twerski’s book illustrates that true happiness is attainable when we stop looking outside ourselves for the source. Instead, happiness can be found within us, when we exercise our unique human abilities such as gratitude, humility, compassion, and generosity that are the components of the human spirit. “True happiness comes when you choose – again and again – to be the best person you can be,” wrote Dr. Twerski in his book.

According to Betty Ford, former first lady and founder of the Betty Ford Treatment Center, Dr. Twerski’s new book, “Provides us with an understanding of our spiritual side…It’s like a conversation with a warm and trusted friend.”
