Ramsey Elected Chair of National Addiction Association
Gateway President Also Named Administrator of the Year

Pittsburgh – Kenneth S. Ramsey, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Gateway Rehabilitation Center, was elected chairman of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) at the annual meeting held in May in Phoenix, AZ. Ramsey was also named administrator of the year by the American College of Addiction Treatment Administrators (ACATA) at the meeting.

NAATP is the national voice of the addiction treatment field in the areas of public policy, advocacy, and funding. Ramsey most recently held the office of vice chairman of NAATP. He will serve a two-year term as chairman, succeeding Douglas Tieman, president and chief executive officer of the Caron Foundation.

Throughout his 38-year career in the addiction treatment field, Ramsey has been actively involved at the local, state, and national levels in championing treatment and recovery. His receipt of ACATA’s administrator of the year award, which honors an administrator of an accredited addiction treatment facility or agency for significant achievement in the areas of patient care, leadership, management, or organizational development, is one of many such honors he has earned during his career. In March 2005, Ramsey received the 2005 Health Care Hero Executive Award in recognition of his efforts to improve the quality of health care for residents of the Pittsburgh area.

Since joining Gateway Rehabilitation Center in 1977, Ramsey has guided the not-for-profit organization to status as an internationally respected leader in the addiction treatment field, recognition as one of the top 100 rehab centers in the country, and acknowledgement as one of the top 12 by Forbes magazine. Gateway provides services in over 20 locations in Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio to more than 9,000 adults and youths per year.
Ramsey is president of the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce, a member of the CEO Club of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Rotary, and was appointed last year by Governor Ed Rendell to the Pennsylvania Advisory Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse. He was among the first 50 Pittsburgh area leaders selected for participation in Leadership Pittsburgh.
Ramsey earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Wheeling College (now Wheeling Jesuit University) in Wheeling, West Virginia; a master’s degree in administration and counseling from Fordham University in New York City; and a Ph.D. degree in social work/strategic planning from the University of Pittsburgh.
